Use your birthday to figure out and reconnect to your element

In my twenties, I dedicated a year to studying the signs of the Zodiac. I spent time during each phase reading about and observing the traits of each sign and then I created an illustration for each. I felt it was a good way to start to understand some of my 'core programming' and external influences. It occurred to me that any given day, not just the date of our birth, we are being influenced by the planetary pulls. So I figured if I got better acquainted with personalities of each sign, then I could understand others better on a deeper level and perhaps work with the seasons rather than fight against them. I knew I fit the description of a Sagittarius to a T but I was curious about the other signs and what I could learn from them too.

Figuring out your Zodiac sign is easy enough if you know your birthday (day/month.) The date of your birth (month/day/year) can also be a way to determine your Soul Matrix number which relates back to numerology and the Tarot and provides a more profound look into your universal traits and your Life Path.

Another component of our identity that can be revealed by knowing our birth sign or Zodiac sign, is our Element. Depending on when you are born, there's a specific Element that is considered "yours."

Fire Signs: Aries (March 21 – April 19),Leo (July 23 – Aug 22), Sagittarius (Nov 22 – Dec 21)   
Earth Signs: Taurus (April 20 – May 20), Virgo (Aug 23 –Sept 22), Capricorn (Dec 22 – Jan 19)
Air Signs: Gemini (May 21 – June 20), Libra (Sept 23 –Oct 22), Aquarius (Jan 20 – Feb 18)
Water Signs: Cancer (June 21 – July 22), Scorpio (Oct 23 –Nov 22), Pisces (Feb 19 – March 20)

If you have ever been out of your comfort zone you may have felt or said something like "I feel out of my element." If/when this does occur, there are ways for you to reconnect to your element and return to your natural state of ease. Connecting to your element can be an easy daily practice. It is useful for reestablishing a basis for ‘who you are,’ for coming back to center and as a tool for initiating work with other elementals like Gnomes, Faeries and Angels.

Simple ways to reconnect to your element:

Fire: Bask in the Sunshine, Moonlight or Starlight. Burn candles/incense/sage. Light lanterns. Make a  campfire, bon fire or have a cook out.

Earth: Get outside with Nature, walk barefoot, hug trees, stand on stumps or rocks, garden, dig in the dirt, make mud pies, get a  houseplant, collect rocks/gems

Air: Spend time in the  Mountains or places with great views. Visit a rooftop venue. Watch the birds. Fly a kite. Take a plane ride. Use fans, open your windows.

Water: Visit natural bodies of water; lakes, streams, waterfalls, rivers, oceans. Take indulgent baths & long showers. Spend time floating. Set up a water fountain.

Having an understanding of and a balanced relationship with all of the elements is ideal, however it is natural that you would feel most at ease working with yours more than the others. You can start by noticing what you are already naturally drawn to and be aware of where you feel most at ease and comfortable. You may find you get your best ideas in the shower or feel more invigorated after spending time in the woods. Take time to discover and create your own rituals and practices. Keep a journal to track your experiences and follow your progress and discoveries. Allow yourself to indulge your inner child and your most uninhibited self so that you can fully enjoy your experience. It is perfectly fine to make it up as you go along, there’s no right or wrong way – just honor your quirky creative self even if it seems silly. Most importantly, you are showing up for yourself and honoring that you are so much more than meets the eye!
