Sleepless
Dream is the art of E. Robin Ritz de Caliz, who resides in the
historic town of Lebanon, CT. She was born in upstate New
York and spent most of her childhood in New England, wanting to
escape, every winter, from the chilling winds and the seemingly
endless months of putting up with the unwelcomed visits of Jack
Frost.
In
1995, victoriously, she went to the Caribbean for the first time
and ended up becoming enchanted by Puerto Rico (La Isla del Encanto)
- go figure! Swearing that she would return after
completing her studies, Ms. Ritz jumped back into classes and
found herself shortly afterwards, studying in Spain. It
was in Spain that she started making reproductions of her handmade
Greeting cards to send to family
and friends. She reminisces, "I remember signing the backs
'Sleepless Productions (peace&love,period)', because
such was the case."
In 1998,
after graduating from Central Connecticut State University, with
a B.A. in International Studies, Robin found herself packing for
Puerto Rico yet again. When she wasn't singing on stage
or helping to line up gigs for the ROOTSTIKS (Reggae Band), more
than likely she could be found on the beach, "working",
collecting treaures, that would later be transformed into
some sort of whimsical creation (i.e. windchimes, mobiles, shell
mosaics, necklaces, etc.)
Although
Robin finds herself (still) braving the frigidness of CT,
all is well and good. Her recycled art
continues to take on new dimensions and higher forms and she continues
to give thanks and praise! Thanks Jah.
Blessed
be your journey. May you come with love and go in peace.
